I’ve been really into the alternative rock band Ween for a while now, their music has sorta calmed me down a little, made me less anxious I guess. “But goozleferngullymegman?” You may ask with a countenance of confusion, What’s a Ween?

Well, Ween is a band created by two funny fellas name Gene Ween and Dean Ween, the name Ween though? Where does it come from you may ask, well, I don’t know.

The band has produced many albums in their time, some of them are more recognizable than others (*cough* the mollusk), some aren’t as easy to listen to, but they’re still really good. 

Chocolate and Cheese, and Shinola Vol. 1 have been my favorites by the band lately, both are really good albums, they tic most of the boxes of what I think rock music should be, weird, goofy, and just fun and general, it also helps I like Hendrix as well, who was a big influence on the band. 

I will say, if you want to get into the band, I would suggest starting with “The Mollusk”, one of the most readably available albums by the band, then go to thing like Quebec, Chocolate and Cheese, and so on. 

Anyway, that’s all I wanted to yakk about, I’m gonna talk about construction in cartoons in the next blog post, but for now, that’s all folks!

2024 recap……sorta

I’m gonna get real for a moment and kinda say I’m a bit disappointed with the performance of this latest toon here

I uploaded it at a really bad time, but I also drove myself insane trying to finish it (actually, not joking when I say this)

I kinda feel like I don’t really wanna do anything anymore, I’m not gonna say I’m gonna quit or anything, it’s just that, I’m just drained.

I feel like anything I do is just a pattern, I get really passionate about a thing, I make, I get really burnt out at the end, I finish it, and no one really watches it.

I think I’m setting too high of a goal for myself, I don’t know, I’m just kinda tried of being called a loser and a weirdo irl (I mean, I kinda am)

I have met a lot of cool people this year (especially @GuardiasVA, HE’S A FLIPPING SAINT TO ME!), I will cherish these friendships I have made during this year, but ye, still kinda bummed.

Sorry if this is getting kinda selfish (I really wanted le cartoon to do well)

It’s just my self esteem issues, that’s probably it, I’ve been struggling with that for a while

I guess my self esteem issues kinda stem from the fact that I have always thought it was best to please people, and the praise was a good thing, and I drove myself looney trying to get it, it’s kinda made me an attention seeker in a way.

I don’t really have much to talk about so have this doodle, also, I WILL STILL MAKE CARTOONS IN 2025! I’m not quitting

I finally gained a couple brain cells and discovered the alpha lock feature, I really enjoy it!

You can and some nice effects to your art when put into practical use

I am trying to find other uses for alpha lock when it comes to animation, but I haven’t had any luck in finding said use

I do feel I have somewhat of an understanding of what I’m doing when it comes to digital art now, but I haven’t mastered it (and pushed it to its limits) like traditional art, not yet anyway.

Ive been going on a bit of a spree kinda testing it out on different things (it all seemed so complex, but now I understand it was there to help me!)

New cartoon comes out today, hopefully it’s really SPOOKY!

I’m gonna be sane and talk about Bassetfilms for a second,

When I first laid eyes on it, I was quickly enamoured with his work.

It just felt right to me, that it was what the cartoon world needed!

But I asked myself “What makes his work so COOL, HOW DOES HE DO IT *spits out carrot crumbs*”

But then it hit me *gets hit by anvil* 

It was his colours (and the fact his stuff looked like old Avery/Walt Kelly stuff)

The colours he uses makes the view (from my perspective) feel calm and invited to a wacky, cartoonish world.

One of my favourite works of his is Hartrup and Oatly

Aren’t the drawings lovely?

Hartrup and Oatly actually uses certain colours to evoke certain moods throughout this roller coaster of a cartoon

Basset also made this comic called “The Monster and The Mailbox”
